Indonesia’s Bus & Truck Industries are Looking Bright in the Future

Indonesia is projected to become world’s 5th largest economy with the population of over 290 million by 2030. With the increase over population and economic activity, Indonesia’s transportation industry is bound to face increase in the market demand and volume due to higher level of daily commuting activity as well as rising demand for transportation of goods.

Looking into the industry on hand, although the sales of truck, trailer and heavy vehicles in the mining sector such as coal is projected to decrease, the truck and trailer market experience positive growth in the logistics sector due to the rise of online shopping and e-commerce in Indonesia. In 2029, Indonesia’s transportation industry is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.26% with the market size is expected to reach USD 152.54 billion.

On the other hand, Indonesia’s bus industry is also looking bright with the addition of electric bus entering the market. The Jakarta city bus operator, TransJakarta has planned to expand their electric buses fleet to reach 10,000 units by 2030, subsequently opening massive business opportunities for bus and coach industry.

Indonesian government also is developing massive road infrastructure to improve connectivity and logistics. The government targets the length of toll roads to reach 18,800 km by 2030. The adequate road infrastructure will encourage more people to use public transportation, leading to the increase in market demand for bus and coach.
